Friday Feels πŸ™Œ : Burning Questions

friday feels the heart of happy

I'm burnin' up for some #FridayFeels! Oh, no, wait, that's just my fever, which is a real thing that's happening to me right now. πŸ€’ BUT! I couldn't let another Friday go by without dropping the feels on ya'll. IT HEALS ME. So, here's today's question:

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL SAFE?

WAIT! Don't roll your eyes at me! I know that sounds a little cheesy but hear me out: We don't often think about how 'safe' we feel at any given timeβ€”and some of us might never feel fully 'safe' from pain, fear, or dark feelingsβ€”but feeling secure, both physically and emotionally, is one of the core needs we ALL have. It's critical for happiness. I want to you really think about a time or place when you did feel comforted or safe. What was it about that experience that fed your feelings of safety? Was it a person, place, or thing that fed your feelings of emotional or physical security the most? And FURTHERMORE, what can you do in your life TODAY to honor that feeling of safety in your life? How can you replicate those moments?

Here's a small example to prove you don't have to dive too deep on this if you don't want to: last night (mid-fever attack) I woke up feeling so uncomfortable in my skin. I was sore all over for no reason and my tossing and turning was fruitless. Jaren happened to be awake so I asked him to rub my back. And he did! And it felt really good! And even though the action was relatively small, it made me feel both emotionally and physically secure. In that moment I felt safe, like I wasn't alone in my writhing discomfort! So I noticed it, and the feeling grew. When we learn to pay attention to the moments when we feel safest and most secure, we learn to honor them. And by honoring them, we actually feel them in a more intense, more wonderful way. It feeds us the all the feels.

EXTRA CREDIT: Sometimes we don't have the tools to replicate the feelings of safety we've experienced before. But one exercise I really like to do when I feel like I need a burst of good feels and no accessible tools to create them is to lay on my back on a hard surface like the floor and imagine a colorful light wrapping itself around me. Even if you swear you've never felt safe before, try that. It won't just recharge you, it will show you that you don't always need external forces (other people, places, things) to feel good. YOU have the power to feed your heart what it needs, too. Happy weekend, little birds! Spread those wings! πŸ€πŸ¦βœ¨ (aaaaand that sounds like something the feverish version of me would say #sorrynotsorry)
