A Stream of Consciousness Poem for You

a little poem

a little poem

I'm sure many of you have heard of the book The Artist's Way—one of the exercises it recommends is to sit down for 3-minutes first thing in the morning and write a 'brain dump,' stream-of-consciousness style, about anything and everything on your mind. It helps clear your head of all the junk swimming inside. A friend of mine recently reminded me of this tool and so, this morning, I did it. But it turned into more of a motivational poem than a bunch of jibberish, so I thought it might be fun to share with you here. You never know when someone else is finding themselves at the same cross-roads, or who may need the same motivation, as you.

If it resonates, please feel free to share.

11.6.18

Your eyes are open
and your feet
are on the ground
and you are stretching
your arms
wide
to god and goddess
and earth and stars.

An opening.

A waiting...
to be seen
and heard
and valued.
To be believed in.

But now you are believed in.
You believe in yourself
and that is the fire that fuels you.
That is the kindling you'll need
when the fire goes out.
To drown out the voices
that shout out "shoulds"
and that aim to dismantle
your view of the world,
your way of living,
your chosen path forward.

Drown them out
with your own power,
your own beliefs,
your own words - loud,
growing louder - no matter
how deviant they sound
to pious ears.

You are your own foundation
and you are seen.
Your legs root
through the earth
and are covered
by growing moss
that climbs
to reach the heavens through your limbs.

The sky has your back
- has all of you -
in a sweet embrace
made sweeter by
the fragrant scent of wildflowers
that floats through the air,
coating you in kisses.

This is not a time of waiting, after all
to be seen,
nor heard,
nor valued.

It is a time of SEEING
where you are seen,
where you are heard,
where you are valued.

It is time to embrace
the confirmation bias
of your dreams:
the readiness you seek is already here.
It has been waiting.
It has been holding space for this,
the opening.

With the earth in your bones
and the stars at your back,
you are ready.
